5 Ways to Get Your Mojo Back
Sometimes we just lose that thing that makes us unique. Here's how to get it back.
Get Your Mojo Back
Recently I sat down with a friend I’ve known a long time. He’s someone I admire and relate to in a lot of ways.
After talking for a while, I finally got up the courage to say what I was actually thinking:
“Man, I think you’ve lost your mojo. You need to get it back.”
I could see it in him because I’ve felt it myself—more than once. It’s like you’re almost yourself but not quite. You start doubting your true calling. Hedging on your dreams. Downplaying your gifts and talents.
Here’s the good news:
You can get your mojo back pretty quickly if you’re intentional about it.
These are five hacks I use when I feel the spark slipping away.
1. Journaling
Putting pen to paper has an almost magical way of helping us get out of our heads. Once we write something down, we let it go for a moment and make room for something new.
One of my favorite practices is called “morning pages”—three pages of stream-of-consciousness writing before you start your day. It doesn’t have to be good. It just has to get out of your brain.
2. Moving
Any new or different form of movement shows your body you’re ready to break some cycles.
If you already exercise, great—change it up. Walk a different route. Try yoga. Go for a hike. If you don’t move much at all, start small. Stretch before bed. Do ten push-ups. Take a slow lap around the block.
Your body shifts, and your brain follows.
3. Retreating
You don’t need an expensive getaway to reset. Sometimes a single day away from your normal routine does the trick.
Drive to a town you’ve never visited. Eat lunch alone. Walk around. Then head home. Getting out of your everyday scenery has a way of breaking through the fog.
4. Creating Something Small
When you’ve lost your mojo, waiting for inspiration is a trap. Start tiny instead.
Write a bad poem. Cook a new recipe. Sketch something on a napkin. Record a voice memo with an idea. Find that acoustic guitar in your closet.
The act of creating—no matter how small—reminds you that you’re a maker. And that spark grows.
5. Connecting with Someone Energizing
We all know people who drain us and people who fill us up. When you’re running low, call the second kind.
Grab coffee with the friend who always makes you laugh. Call the person who believes in you more than you believe in yourself. Let their energy jumpstart your own.
I call these friends your “search party” because they help you find yourself when you’re off track. They are invaluable.
None of these are magic bullets. But if you try even one, you’ll feel a shift.
Think of it like smelling salts for your soul. They won’t win the fight for you, but they’ll snap you back into the ring with clear eyes.
And that’s the goal.
To get you back in the ring.
To get you feeling like you again.
To find your mojo.
Great thoughts. I hope your friend finds this post!
